Hello, all my friends. Welcome back to Gigi's Magic Mailbox.
[music trilling]
Did you hear that? That's so exciting. Let's see what's in the magic mailbox.
(Describer) Gigi opens the magic mailbox. Pink and white fireworks burst.
[music chiming]
"Bad Kitty Does Not Like Valentine's Day."
[Gigi laughs]
Well, Bad Kitty doesn't like it because Bad Kitty has done some things that make people not want to give her any Valentine so she has to learn maybe she should give some Valentines and be a better kitty so that she'll get some Valentines. It's a cute and funny story, and if you have your own copy, go grab it and you can read it with me. All right, let's get started.
(Describer) In an animation, a magic mirror reflects Gigi, a red-lipped woman in bejeweled, cat-eye glasses.
[playful music]
(children) Gigi's Magic Mailbox.
(Gigi) "Bad Kitty Does Not Like Valentine's Day." Written and illustrated by Nick Bruel. Kitty is not happy.
(Describer) A black kitty sits with her arms folded.
Today is Valentine's Day, but no one has given her a Valentine.
(Describer) She scowls at cards on a table.
Think about it, Kitty. Think about all the things you've done since last Valentine's Day. Do you remember last Easter when you stole all the eggs? Kitty remembers.
(Describer) Kitty runs with an Easter basket.
Do you remember last Halloween when you scared Uncle Murray?
(Kitty) Boogie, boogie, boogie.
(Uncle Murray) Eek!
(Gigi) Kitty remembers.
(Describer) Kitty wears a scary mask.
Do you remember last Thanksgiving when you ate all the turkey?
[Kitty burping]
Kitty remembers.
(Describer) Kitty holds her full belly.
Do you remember last Christmas when you toppled the tree? Kitty remembers.
(Describer) Kitty sits on a Christmas tree like a saddle.
Kitty remembers everything, but now Kitty is worried. Kitty is worried that no one loves her. If you want to get a Valentine, Kitty, maybe you should give a Valentine. Why don't you make a Valentine for Puppy? Puppy loves Valentines. Kitty is going to try.
(Describer) Kitty holds a pink crayon and paper.
"Roses are red, violets are blue. "Sugar is sweet. You smell bad." That's not very nice, Kitty. Try again.
(Describer) Kitty shrugs.
"Roses are red, violets are blue. "Sugar is sweet. "You drool everywhere. Please stop, it's disgusting." That's not very nice either, Kitty. Try again. This time, be nice. "Roses are red, violets are blue. "Sugar is sweet. "I guess, I think, I suppose, I like you."
(Describer) Puppy smiles and drools.
[Puppy sniffing]
[Puppy barking]
(Puppy) Glomp.
(Describer) Puppy eats the valentine!
(Gigi) Look at how happy you made Puppy. Now he has a Valentine for you.
(Puppy) Gulp.
(Describer) Kitty's eyes widen.
[Puppy coughing]
[Kitty meowing]
"Roses are red, violets are blue. "Sugar is sweet. Love, Puppy."
(Describer) The wet valentine sticks to Kitty's belly. Drool drips on the floor. Kitty hugs the valentine.
[drum roll music]
Kitty loves her Valentine.
[kitty purring]
[Puppy slurping]
(Describer) Puppy licks Kitty.
[Puppy panting]
But Kitty does not like Valentine's Day.
(Describer) Kitty drips with drool. A heart appears above Puppy's head.
The end.
(Describer) Text: "Valentine Match Up"
Kitty made some cute Valentines. Let's see if we can match them up. Let's see if we can match the front of the Valentine with the back of the Valentine. Here's the first one. "Violets are blue, roses are red. I almost finished this poem." Do you think it's "Because I dig you"? "But I went to bed"? "But then the dog ate it"? Or, "To make me go purr"? You're right! It's the one that says, "But I went to bed." So it says, "Violets are blue, roses are red. I almost finished this poem, but I went to bed."
[Kitty snoring]
Let's try another one. "Roses are red, violets are blue. You must be a litter box..." "Because I dig you." "But I went to bed." We know it's not that one. "But then the dog ate it." Or, "To make me go purr." You're right! "Because I dig you." So it goes, "Roses are red, violets are blue. You must be a litter box because I dig you." That's funny.
[kitty litter crinkling]
Let's do another one. "Roses are red, black is my fur. You've got what it takes." We know it's not "Because I dig you" or "But I went to bed," so it must be, "But then the dog ate it," or, "To make me go purr." You're right! "To make me go purr." So it goes, "Roses are red, black is my fur. You've got what it takes to make me go purr."
[Kitty purring]
Let's do the last one. "Roses are red, violets are blue. I wrote you this poem." Well, there's only one left, so we know it must be "But then the dog ate it." So that one goes, "Roses are red, violets are blue. I wrote you this poem, but then the dog ate it." That's pretty funny.
[dog panting]
Well, Bad Kitty made some cute Valentines, didn't she?
[playful music]
Thank you for joining me today to read "Bad Kitty Does Not Like Valentine's Day." Isn't that a funny story? I love all of Bad Kitty's funny faces and how she got licked at the end. Well, I hope you have a great day, and I'll see you soon.
