There is strength and diversity within the culture, exemplified by language, the arts, science, history, politics, and the full scope of human experiences.

To commemorate the establishment of the American School for the Deaf (1817), the founding of Gallaudet University (1864), and the success of the "Deaf President Now" movement at Gallaudet (1988), and to celebrate key moments in deaf heritage
