Hi there. Mike Mulligan here. And in today's O&M Refresher video, I'm gonna be demonstrating how to unfold a folding white cane. So right now, in front of me here, I have a folding white cane. It is held together by the elastic cord, the little loop at the end of it. It is holding all four sections together. So I'm gonna show you an easy way to just unfold this cane in a safe way. So the first thing you want to do is find the elastic cord that is holding the whole cane together and that little loop, and you're gonna pull that loop off. So you're actually gonna pull it away from where it's connected to the cane. So you'll feel the tension; so it takes a little effort. You pull it over all the sections, and now my cane is free. The elastic loop is no longer around all the pieces of the cane. So after you have removed that little loop that's holding the whole cane together, the next part is to find the handle with one of your hands, whatever hand you're holding the cane with. So, in my hand here, I have the cane that's folded. I'm gonna look for the handle with my left hand. I'm still holding all the sections still with that same hand. And then what I'm going to do-- instead of unfolding each section one at a time and risk getting pinched in the joints, I am just going to drop the cane while I'm holding the handle, and drop the other three sections; and it's just gonna unfold itself and become straight. So here I'm gonna demonstrate that. So I'm letting go of the three sections except for the handle. The cane just kind of snaps itself into place, and now it is unfolded.
