Hey, everyone. Mike Mulligan here. And in today's O&M Skill Refresher video, I'm going to be reviewing how to do the Thumb Grasp when holding on to a white cane. So in front of me here, I have an unfolded long white cane. The cane tip is straight in front of me at 12 o'clock. I'm holding on to the handle. This is a black handle. Three-quarters of it is rounded, and one-quarter of it is flat. So, what I'm going to do for Thumb Grasp is I'm gonna first put my thumb, extend it out on the flat part of the grip. So right now my thumb is extended down towards the floor, or pointing down the cane on the flat part of the grip, and my other forefingers are just wrapped around underneath the cane, coming back up. And when I'm holding this, the top of my thumb-- So my thumb, or my fingernail of my thumb, is facing towards the ceiling, and I'm holding the cane in my right hand so the back of my right hand is facing towards my right-- or like a right wall. And my other forefingers are wrapped underneath the cane, and those fingernails are facing towards the left. So that's how you do Thumb Grasp when holding on to a white cane.
