Describes life in a typical nursing-home setting with an institutional atmosphere. Presents a radical new approach to nursing homes and assisted-living facilities for the elderly. Called the "Green House Project," it is founded on the idea that the physical and social environments in which long-term care is delivered should be warm, smart, and green. Includes interviews with workers in a new profession, Shahbaz, who are trained to protect, sustain, and nurture the elders. Shows "moving day" in the spring of 2003 when 40 elders moved from a traditional nursing home to the first four Green Houses. Looks at positive changes in elder residents after their move.
