      (Children) "Gigi's Magic Mailbox."

      [twinkling music]

      [gasps] Did you hear that?

That means something's just arrived in the Magic Mailbox. -Let's see what it is. -[twinkling music]

(Describer) Purple sparkles shoot from the mailbox. The woman takes out a book.

"There Was an Old Lady -Who Swallowed Some Books." -[gulping effect] There was an old lady who swallowed some books. [gulping] I don't know why she swallowed those books, but she didn't get any looks. There was an old lady who swallowed a pen. [gulping] She was happy again when she swallowed that pen. She swallowed the pen to write in the books. I don't know why she swallowed the books, but she didn't get any looks. There was an old lady who swallowed a pencil case. [gulping] Without leaving a trace, she swallowed that pencil case. She swallowed the pencil case to hold the pen. She swallowed the pen to write in the books. I don't know why she swallowed the books, but she didn't get any looks. There was an old lady who swallowed a ruler. [gulping] She couldn't look cooler swallowing that ruler. She swallowed the ruler to measure the pencil case. She swallowed the pencil case to hold the pen. She swallowed the pen to write in the books. I don't know why she swallowed the books, but she didn't get any looks. There was an old lady who swallowed a folder. [gulping] She didn't feel any older when she swallowed that folder. She swallowed the folder to protect the ruler. She swallowed the ruler to measure the pencil case. She swallowed the pencil case to hold the pen. She swallowed the pen to write in the books. I don't know why she swallowed the books, but she didn't get any looks. There was an old lady who swallowed some chalk. [gulping] She didn't balk when she swallowed that chalk. She swallowed the chalk to decorate the folder. She swallowed the folder to protect the ruler. She swallow the ruler to measure the pencil case. She swallowed the pencil case to hold the pen. She swallowed the pen to write in the books. I don't know why she swallowed the books, but she didn't get any looks. There was an old lady who swallowed a bag. [gulping] She didn't brag when she swallowed that bag. The old lady didn't fuss when around the corner came a big, yellow, school bus. -[wheels screech] -[page rustles] She started a cheer that she could not hold back.

      (Old Lady) Woo hoo!

(Gigi) And out popped her brand new backpack. -Have a great school year. -[horn honks] -The end. -[page rustles] Hey kids, do you remember all the things the old lady swallowed?

She swallowed some books, [gulping] a pen, [gulping]

a pencil case, [gulping] a ruler, [gulping] a folder,

[gulping] some chalk, [gulping] and a bag. [gulping]

Did you remember them all? -Good job. -[playful music]

(Describer) With the woman by the mailbox.

      [gasps] Did you hear that?

That means something else has arrived in the Magic Mailbox today. -Let's see what it is. -[twinkling music]

(Describer) Purple sparkles fly from the mailbox.

Oh, [chuckles] kind of stuffed in here. Well, this is one of Gigi's Magic Mailbox backpacks.

      [laughs] That's pretty cool,

and it feels like there's some things in it. Just like in the story, she had a backpack full of things, didn't she? Well, let's see what's in here. Oh, a bottle of glue, that's good for school. Ooh, a sparkly pencil with an eraser on it. Let's see, oh, I think there's two more things. A little colorful notepad, that's cute. I could jot down some notes about some things, maybe for me, a to-do list, but for you, if you have a little notepad, you could maybe practice writing your letters. Well, let's see, oh, one more thing, a box of crayons. Those are always fun. Well, that's pretty cool. Thanks, Magic Mailbox. Thank you for joining me today to read "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Books." [laughs] I like in the end, how she burped or coughed or spit up,

[laughs] I don't know what you say,

all of those things into a backpack. She was ready for school, wasn't she? [laughs] Maybe you are too. Well, thank you for joining me and I hope you have a great day and I'll see you soon.

      [playful music]
