Hello everyone. Welcome to "Gigi's Magic Mailbox." I'm Gigi, and I'm so glad you're here.
[chimes ring]
Did you hear that? That means something's just arrived at the magic mailbox. Let's see what it is.
[chimes ring]
(Describer) Gigi opens the magic mailbox. Orange fireworks burst.
"10 Busy Brooms" with all these little witches. That looks like a great Halloween story, doesn't it? They're all so cute. Well, if you have your own copy, go grab it, and we'll read it together. All right, let's get started.
(Describer) In an animation, a magic mirror reflects Gigi, a red-lipped woman in bejeweled, cat-eye glasses.
[whimsical music]
(children) "Gigi's Magic Mailbox."
(Gigi) "10 Busy Brooms," written by Carole Gerber and illustrated by Michael Fleming. One little witch on a long, speedy broom saw another sweeping webs from a dusty tomb. "Come fly with me," she called. "I've got lots of room."
(Describer) A blue witch invites a pink witch.
Two little witches spied a third on the run. Closing behind was a scrawny skeleton.
[chimes ring]
(Describer) A red witch runs.
There's that magical sound again. Let's see what's in the magic mailbox. I'm always kind of afraid at Halloween. You never know what's gonna be in there.
(Describer) Gigi opens the mailbox.
[chimes ring]
Oh, a scrawny little skeleton just like in the story. He was chasing after that witch, wasn't he? This little skeleton, I think-
[skeleton cackling]
I think his head is on. That's pretty funny. He kind of sounds like a monkey, doesn't he? [laughing] Well, he is a scrawny little thing. He needs some meat on his bones, doesn't he? Well, let's see what else happens in the story with all those witches "Jump on now," they shouted. "He's a sneaky one." Three little witches zipping through the night. Saw a ghost haunt a witch as she jumped in fright. "Come with us," they hollered and grab on tight.
(Describer) They invite a yellow witch on their broom.
Four little witches heard a fifth cry, "Oh, that big greedy goblin wants my apple brew." "Hop on quick," called the witches. "Bring your brew pot too."
(Describer) A blue-green witch carries a cauldron.
Five little witches slurping supper in the sky saw a mummy snatch another witch's pumpkin pie. "Ride with us," they yelled. "It's safer way up high."
(Describer) A purple witch bakes pies.
[chimes ring]
You know what that means? Let's see what's in the magic mailbox.
[chimes ring]
(Describer) Gigi reaches inside the mailbox.
A little bitty mummy. Hold on, let's see. Oh, let's see if I can wind him up.
[mummy legs whirring]
He walks. Isn't that so cute? Now in the story, that mummy was stealing a pumpkin pie. I didn't know mummies like pumpkin pies, did you? That's so silly. Well, let's see what else happens with the witches. Six little witches watched a werewolf prowl. He leaped toward a seventh and let out a howl.
[wolf howls]
"Pick me up," she begged. "His breath is really foul."
(Describer) A light green witch pinches her nose.
Seven little witches bobbing past a bog saw a sneaky snake slither near a witch and a frog. "Rise and shine," they called. We'll lift you off that log.
(Describer) They invite a green witch on their broom.
[chimes ring]
There's our favorite sound again. Let's see what's in the magic mailbox.
(Describer) Gigi opens the mailbox. Orange fireworks spray.
[chimes ring]
Ooh, a snake. That sneaky snake slithered toward that witch and her frog, didn't it? This one's not so big, so it might not be as scary as that big snake that was in the story going after that witch. Well, let's get back to the story and see what else happens. Eight little witches saw a big scary bat swoop toward a witch and her tiny white cat. "Raise your broom," they screeched. "We'll lift you with that."
(Describer) A light blue witch swats at a bat.
Nine little witches felt the broom dropping low. First it wibbled and then wobbled. Then it fell, oh no.
(Describer) The witches ride the falling broom.
[broom crashes]
(Describer) The witches land in a pile of leaves.
Near a witch eating candy who said, "Hello. "You look so real," she cried. "Your costumes are sweet." "We are real," they replied, scrambling to their feet. Then 10 little witches took off down the street.
[chimes ring]
There's that magical sound again. Let's see what's in the magic mailbox.
(Describer) Gigi opens the magic mailbox.
[chimes ring]
Oh, a bunch of things. Look at this. They're tiny little brooms. Let's see if we can count them together. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, oop eight, almost dropped one, nine, and 10 just like in the story. 10 busy brooms.
[chimes ring]
Well, there's our sound again. Let's see what's in the magic mailbox.
(Describer) Gigi looks inside the mailbox.
[chimes ring]
Little red eyeballs. Creepy little eyeballs aren't there? There's one, two, three, four, five, oh, there's more, six, seven.
[ball popping]
Oh, did you hear that? I dropped one. Eight, nine, I bet there's one more, yep, ten eyeballs. That's fun.
[mailbox lid bangs]
[chimes ring]
Oh, did you hear that? Something else is in the magic mailbox. Let's see what it is.
(Describer) Gigi opens the mailbox. Orange fireworks sparkle.
[chimes ring]
Some bones. One, two, three, four. This is a big one and that's a little one. Five, six, seven, eight. Is that it? Nope, I hear another one in there. Nine, surely, there's one more. We had ten of everything else, didn't we? Oh, I don't think there is. Oh, I found it. [laughing] It's way down in there. I feel like the magic mailbox is trying to eat me. Ten! It's fun counting to 10, isn't it? You wanna do it again? One, let's do it faster. Oh, let's do it backwards. Here, we'll do it this way.
(Describer) Gigi holds up the bones.
Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one. Good job. Well, let's see what else happens with the witches. Giggling together and shouting, "Trick or treat."
[witches cackling]
(Describer) The witches smile and peek around a door.
The end.
(Describer) Rows of characters appear.
Can you help me find all 10 witches on this page? Let's see if we can find them. Oh, there's one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. Which one of the witches is your favorite? I like the ones holding the black cauldrons with the green goo coming out of the top. They're all pretty cute though, aren't they?
[whimsical music]
Thank you for reading "10 Busy Brooms" with me today. Those witches had a busy night, didn't they?
