DCMP Online Accessibility Tool Beta Testing

Benefits of Audio Description in Education.

DCMP continues to accept requests for beta testing its new online accessibility tool, which allows users to easily create captions, audio description, and American Sign Language (ASL) for videos they create.

The complexity and cost of producing accessibility can represent a significant barrier, especially for educators who create their own videos. DCMP’s solution was to create a simple online platform for video creators to upload videos and make them accessible themselves. This new AI-assisted accessibility tool supports the production of captioning, audio description, and sign language interpretation entirely in a web browser.

Through custom AI and machine learning integrations, along with natural language processing that's trained on DCMP’s Captioning Key guidelines, the process of quality captioning is now incredibly fast and simple. For audio description, users can write the description, voice it themselves or use a synthetic voice, and then mix the audio and description automatically or manually. Finally, users can record ASL interpretation with a webcam, tablet, or phone, and then select and edit takes and synchronize it with the main video.

After making a video accessible, users can export the files they create, perfectly timed and packaged for use on other platforms. Many educators will be able to host the video on DCMP’s accessible streaming platform.
