William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, James K. Polk, and Zachary Taylor served one term or less as President. Harrison died after 30 days in office; Tyler's term was very controversial; Polk's tenure included Manifest Destiny, the gold rush, and prosperity; and Taylor died after sixteen months in office. Divisive politics, focus on image not issues, and increased dissention over slavery marked these presidencies.
