After the American Civil War, America's industrialization continued to grow, and the country entered a period of expansion. Covers events between 1854-1917: open trade with Japan; the purchase of Alaska; the annexation of Hawaii; the Spanish-American War in 1898; the Open Door Policy toward China; the Boxer Rebellion in 1901; and the foreign policies of Roosevelt, Taft, and Wilson. Touches on events leading to wars, political unrest in America, and building the Panama Canal. Archival footage, photos, and recordings add clarity.
