U.S. Department of Education Funding for Accessible Media

The ED funds a Media Center grant to provide accessible, educational media to children with disabilities, as well as three Television Access grants. Grants are managed by the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP).

Educational Media Center

DCMP creates and streams accessible educational media to serve 7.5 million students, develops new technologies, and more through this ED grant. This includes the creation of high-quality captioning, audio description, and American Sign Language interpretation.

Television Access Grants

These grants support projects that add audio description and sign language interpretation to broadcast content. Bridge Multimedia, Dicapta, and DCMP operate OSEP-funded projects that develop high-quality audio description and ASL which align with educational standards to aid learning.

"American Revolutionary" is a documentary portrait of Grace Lee Boggs, the Chinese-American philosopher, writer, and activist whose life connects Detroit history, the Civil Rights Movement, Black Power, labor organizing, and community renewal. The film traces her intellectual journey through Hegel, Marxism, dialectical thinking, and social change, alongside her partnership with James Boggs. Key themes include racial justice, democracy, activism, nonviolence, urban decline, automation, and grassroots organizing in Detroit. The video also highlights Detroit Summer, urban gardens, education, and the idea that revolution involves both social transformation and personal transformation. Rich in primary-source historical references, the documentary supports curricula in U.S. history, civics, political science, philosophy, and multicultural studies.
