For Detroit dancer Erika “Big Red” Stowall, the motor city is a canvas on which to express her femininity, reclaim personal safety, and be vulnerable and powerful. Stowall started dancing at the age of four and focused on African and Caribbean traditions. Watch how Stowall showcases her blend of styles to honor her family roots in the American South. Stowall dances in the streets of Detroit’s historic Corktown neighborhood, in front of abandoned warehouses, and at the old Michigan Central Station train depot. Part of the "If Cities Could Dance" series.
