      - [Daja] This episode of The Outsiders Club is brought to you by Florida's Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

(upbeat music) - Hey, I thought you were on vacation? - Yeah? - No, I leave tomorrow. I'm worried about Sunny. - Sunny? - My goldfish! - [Elainena] Aw, he looks friendly! - He is, I'm scared that he'll get lonely while I'm on vacation. - Well, then take him with you! - Yeah! - What? - Yeah, today on the show, we'll be making a travel aquarium. - [All] Project travel aquarium! - [Chase] And Brandon goes to the fuel lab to experiment with a good-to-go granola recipe. But first, I go to the Florida Keys Aquarium Encounters. It blew my mind. - That looks amazing, Chase. - It was, but just wait until you see what I get to feed. Just a hint, it had big teeth. Rawr, check it out! - [Both] Aquarium Encounters! - Let's go encounter!

(upbeat music) Turtles, stingrays, you name it. If it lives in the waters of the Florida Keys, then chances are, you'll find it right here at Aquarium Encounters in Marathon in the Florida Keys. If you like close encounters with marine life, then you've gotta come here! You can touch, swim with, even feed all these cool sea creatures, even the big ones. And my new friend Hannah's gonna show me all of it. So Hannah, what do you love to do out here? - I especially love to get in the tanks. It gives me a little bit more appreciation for all the animals that we have here in the Florida Keys. So, it's a good training experience and also teaching experience for younger kids. - Oh wow, this place just looks so amazing. Now, what do we get to do here? - We're actually gonna be getting in some tanks today with some of our marine life here. - Then, let's go encounter something. Now, where do we go? - This way, let's get started! - [Chase] Hannah showed me some of the awesome exhibits here and let me get up close and personal with all the different sea creatures. The coolest thing about the Aquarium Encounters is that they have so many different exhibits, let you get close to all the different marine life that live here in the Florida Keys. - Put your hand down farther. Alrighty, our next thing to do here is our stingray encounter and you're gonna love it. And what we're gonna be doing is we're gonna be able to feed and pet some of the rays in here. My favorite part of this encounter is definitely Big Mama. - Big Mama, who's Big Mama? - Big Mama is our big southern right here and she loves to give you hugs. So hopefully we'll be lucky enough to have her come up onto us and get a chance to be able to feed her and pet her. - Hopefully, if we're lucky. - If we're lucky. - [Chase] I can't believe we're going into a tank with real stingrays! Feeding the stingray was really easy. All I had to do was hold out some food, and it swam right up to me. - [Hannah] How neat is that?

(laughs) - We're looking for Big Mama right now and she's one of like the coolest rays in here. And the biggest. - [Hannah] She's right over there. Here she comes, she's right beh. - Oh, right there! Come on, come on, come on, (mumbles). - [Hannah] Hi Big Mama. - She's so big! Now I know why you guys call her Big Mama. I can't believe I got hugged by a stingray! These guys were so friendly, especially Big Mama. - There's three different species in here. You got Big Mama who's a southern ray. And then you have a spotted eagle ray. And then we have other cownose right here too.

      - [Chase] Ooo! (laughing) Next, Hannah said it's time to go big. That's right, we're going in the big tank with the big fish. Is that a shark? - That looked so cool, Chase! - I know, there were so many fish, you can't even see your hand if you put it up to your face. - Whoa. - That's how many fish there were. - Okay so, I think we have all the things we need to make our travel-size aquarium. - This won't be that hard. - Actually taking care of goldfish are harder than people think. I mean, a lot of people think you can just get a regular bowl and put some water in it, and your goldfish is fine. But it's not and you're not done. It's a lot harder than that. Your goldfish can get sick. But we do have a jar, we have some pebbles, a life plant and some water. So this is a code green. No assistance, no tools, no problem. - So we start with the pebbles, right? - Actually, we're gonna start with the water. We're gonna leave it out for like a day or so out in the sun. That way it'll get rid of all the chlorine. - Wait, this is the water for the fish? - Yeah. - Oh no, I think I drank some of that. - You drink from random jars you see around here? - Hey, it looked clean and I was thirsty! - Okay, well now a goldfish needs some sort of filter. - You mean one of those noisy things from the big tanks? - Yeah but that'd just be way too complicated and there's tons of filters here in nature. - Like the plants? - Exactly, plants help filter out ammonia and give oxygen to the fish. There are plenty of plants that are good for goldfish but today we have the amazon sword plant. Now, plants normally wouldn't do good in a normal fish tank, but we'll handle that after the break. - When we come back, I'll continue my trek through the underwater kingdom. Daja, I felt like a king down there. - Were you expecting to be crowned king? - Maybe, don't miss it! - Do you want your own Outsiders Club t-shirt? - Then go to our website, at theoutsidersclub.com. And get an official Outsiders Club t-shirt. - Oh yeah. - It's official. - You're watching The Outsiders Club, and we'll be right back.

      - [Chase] I'm here at the Aquarium Encounters in the Florida Keys with my new friend, Hannah. She's taught me how to feed stingrays and showed me all the other aquatic wildlife that lives here in the ocean. But now, it's time for the coral reef tank. We met up with Alicia, our diving instructor, to go over some safety tips. - Next thing, hand signals. Obviously we can't talk under water, so we use hand signals as divers. If I ask you "are you okay?" "I'm okay." This means up not awesome, cool. This means down sound good? - Okay, I think we've covered everything. Well, almost everything. Quick question. - Sure. - Do these stingrays, are their stingers out? - These are mobula rays and they actually don't grow barbs even naturally in the wild. Spotty, our eagle ray, she does but we clip them every two months just like finger nails, so it doesn't hurt them. - Alrighty Chase, you ready to do this? - Yeah! - Alrighty, just stick with me the entire time. - Okay. This was my first time using their tankless scuba-diving system and it was super easy to get used to. - Chase, we're gonna give you 12 pounds. We'll see how that is. - Am I that light? We strapped on the weights and Alicia showed me how easy it is to use everything. - All you gotta do is focus on breathing, getting down in the water, it's very fun. - Let's get our encounter on. I'm in encounter mode and I can't even believe I'm doing this. I've always wanted to breathe underwater like a fish and this is my big chance. After getting used to our surroundings, we met up with Alicia to feed the fish. She handed us these white bottles, and before you knew it fish were everywhere! There was a spotted stingray really curious about Hannah and I. I guess she was really hungry or she just really liked me. Then it was time for the main event. Wait, is that a shark? Phew, there was a wall of glass separating us. I was scared for a minute. Turns out, the tanks are connected by a tiny hole, just big enough to feed them through safely. After that, it was time to go up. - That was amazing! - How'd you think of it? - It was fun, like really fun. One of my favorite parts was just getting to see that eel. It was just amazing Hannah. - It must've liked you, because he rarely comes out. - That one stingray that wouldn't leave us alone, who is that? - [Hannah] That's Spotty, our spotted eagle ray. She loves to get onto people, especially when food's involved. - [Chase] Every time I turn around or look up, look anywhere, she's right there. - Exactly, she was latching onto your shoulder so she musta liked you extra. Alrighty, let's get outta here. - [Chase] As we climbed out, I'm still thinking about the coolest part of my dive, feeding a big shark. - So I saw you jump a little bit when you fed the sand tiger over there, what were you thinking? - I knew there's glass over there, but like. - They just look so close. - [Chase] I know like, I've never had a shark, like face to face with me. I mean, I saw him just lookin' at me like that. - [Hannah] Did you see all of his teeth? - Yeah, he had like five rows of them. And then I stuck out that little piece of fish, started wiggling it and then I saw him coming up

from the side and then (slurp noise), it was gone. - In a matter of seconds, it was gone. Chase, what'd you think overall? Would you want kids to come here and be able to experience what you did today? - I would love for them to do that, 'cause I really think they would enjoy it. And I, personally, would love to come and do this again.

      - Hannah's got some fresh Florida fruit for us. - With all the encounters that we've done today. - Like, swim in the tanks. - Exactly, it's especially important to be able to keep recharging on this fruit here. - [Chase] I had such an amazing day here at Aquarium Encounters. Hannah taught me so much about the animals in our oceans. Got to play with stingrays, feed sharks. I made so many friends, both in and out of the water. Now, I just need to pick up a t-shirt to take back with me to The Outsiders Club. - Oh there you are, I was looking for ya. - Oh hi! - Have a gift for ya, here ya go! - Oh thanks, I was just looking for one of these.
