Hey, it's me, Mr. J., and welcome to today's drawing challenge. Do you have a couple minutes? Because today's challenge is a cat attacking a city. So grab something to draw on and something to draw with and let's do this.

(Describer) A title: Drawing with Mr. J. In a sketch, a smiling man wears glasses. In a room decorated with drawings, he holds a pen.

      [upbeat music]

So how do we draw a cat attacking a city? Let's start with the city. And a lot of buildings start with just rectangles. So we've got tall rectangles, shorter rectangles, and even rectangles with triangles on the top. We've got lots of different ways to draw buildings that all start with a rectangle. And windows. Windows are also rectangles. So we've got a couple windows there and windows there. This looks like a pretty peaceful city. That's because the cat hasn't attacked it yet. So let's add in the cat. If we start here with triangle ears. And then paws. Definitely paws. And claws.

(Describer) The cat looms behind the buildings.

But what about the face? Hmm. The cat could be in love with the city and want to hug everyone, or it could be really angry. My cat's gonna be angry. So we've got little eyes, nose, a little scrunched-up mouth,

      (Describer) A zigzag.

and eyebrows that are pointing down.

      (Describer) Toward the middle.

      That cat looks pretty angry.

(Describer) The animated sketch of Mr. J. reappears.

So let's check in. What does anger look like? What does anger look like on your face or on a face of someone you know? Do your eyebrows point in like they did on the cat? And your mouth. It's definitely not in a smile. Is it all scrunched-up, or is it in a frown? I know that's true for me. And what does anger feel like? Do you feel all hot when you're angry, or maybe tense? Do you ever feel angry so much that you feel like you could attack a whole city?

(Describer) The cat whacks a building.

      [cat hisses]

      Anger can be pretty scary.

      [cat growls]

(Describer) At his drawing table, Mr. J. nods at his picture.

Yeah, like my cat, sometimes I feel angry, and it's a little scary. So I have someone in my life that I can talk to about how I'm feeling that won't hold it against me as I figure out why I feel that way and how I'm feeling and hopefully feel better. So start a conversation when you're feeling angry with a trusted adult, a parent, or a friend about the ways you're feeling and why you feel that way. And maybe even start by sharing your drawing. Here's mine.

(Describer) Mr. J. holds up his "attack-cat" drawing and points to it, then grins and sets it back down.

Thanks for joining me today as we drew a cat attacking a city. I look forward to seeing you next time for another drawing challenge.
