After injuring his hand, a silversmith's apprentice in Boston becomes a messenger for the Sons of Liberty (the group that was involved in the Boston Tea Party) in the days before the American Revolution. The ride of Paul Revere, the first shot at Lexington Green and the rout of British troops are seen as Johnny Tremain and his friends learn to understand the true meaning of liberty and the rights of humankind. Based on the 1944 Newbery Award-winning book by Esther Forbes.
