Snails are members of the Mollusca phylum, which includes oysters, clams, octopuses, and squids. Not all of these creatures make shells. Those that do produce shells primarily use calcium carbonate, a hard mineral that protects the softer animal within. The snails featured in this episode reproduce quickly and devour anything in their path. Part of the "Journey to the Microcosmos" series.
