The Korean War was fought between North Korea and South Korea from 1950 to 1953. The war began on June 25, 1950 when North Korea invaded South Korea following clashes along the border and rebellions in South Korea. At the end of the Korean War, after two years of negotiation, an armistice was signed on July 27, 1953, at Panmunjom on the 38th parallel. A demilitarized zone was set up which stands to this day.
