(narrator) The health sciences field is rapidly growing and innovating. With new technology, medical experts are able to treat new and evolving conditions more effectively than ever. Patient care is improving, and the demand for new, innovative careers are increasing. Three innovative and desirable careers are licensed practical nurses, medical lab technicians, and physical therapists. Licensed practical nurses, or LPNs, play an integral role in health care settings. Their duties include monitoring vital signs, preparing and administrating vaccines and shots, and caring for the sick.
(Describer) A nurse stands beside a woman with swollen knees.
They're the lifeblood of hospitals, and their duties are very important to patient care and outcomes. They often work at nursing homes and hospitals, caring for the sick and elderly, and they also work with the developmentally disabled. Nursing is a growing field with lots of advancement opportunities and experiences.

Medical lab technicians play a vital role in testing samples for diseases. They make it possible for physicians to make medical decisions for their patients. Medical lab technicians run tests on urine, blood, and other types of samples to assist doctors in determining health conditions. Work environments include hospitals, clinics, health organizations, labs, and pharmaceutical companies. Like many medical careers, lab technicians have many opportunities to specialize in different areas.

Physical therapists assist patients with recovery after medical treatment or injury. They employ a variety of techniques and exercises to improve a patient's medical outcome or quality of life.

Physical therapy can specialize in orthopedic patients, pediatrics, sports, women's health, geriatrics, clinical electrophysiology, cardiovascular, and neurology.
