World War I lasted four years, involved 30 nations, 70 million soldiers, and ten million military deaths. Called the Great War, it transformed Europe and the rest of the world. Gives the European political and social environment and the Balkan situation as background. Archival footage shows battles, alliances, and strategies. The Treaty of Versailles ended the war, but did not create lasting peace.
