(children) Yay!
(female narrator) More than 2,000 years ago, a giant temple in Jerusalem was an important building to the Jewish people. Outsiders seized the temple to stop the Jews from practicing their faith. When the Jews regained the temple, they celebrated. Part of that celebration was to keep a fire burning. One night's worth of oil burned for eight nights. Hanukkah celebrates that miracle. Jewish people have an eight-night festival every November or December. Each night, they light a candle on the menorah, play games, and eat traditional Jewish foods. In America, children also get gifts each night. Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday and a reminder that people should be allowed to practice their religion. That makes it a great American holiday too. And that's Hanukkah.
