1 minute

(Describer) Title: All About the Holidays. Each letter in “holidays” has a different colorful pattern. Pages of a calendar turn.

(female narrator) Ghouls and goblins everywhere know that October 31 is Halloween. Did you know that Halloween traditions go back thousands of years? The ancient Celtic people celebrated October 31 as the last day before winter. They harvested crops and had a party. They thought it was the time when the spirit world and the regular world were closest together, so spirits could drop in and say hi. People dressed like animals to scare off bad spirits. That party turned into Halloween. It's still a big celebration with costumes and scary decorations, but all the fun occurring at night can be dangerous. So, 80 years ago, Americans invented trick-or-treating to keep children busy. That's a sweet way to solve a problem. And that's Halloween.
