(male narrator) Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year. It is celebrated on a day between early September and early October. It's a time to reflect on past actions, set future goals, and strengthen connections with the Jewish faith. Rosh Hashanah is the anniversary of God's creation of the world. On Rosh Hashanah, many Jews attend prayer services at a synagogue. During the prayers, a special horn, a shofar, is blown 100 times to celebrate the story of creation. To symbolize a fresh start for the new year, some Jews perform tashlich, throwing pieces of bread into flowing water while they pray, so the bread and misbehavior from the year before are swept away. After Rosh Hashanah services, friends and family gather to share treats. Especially popular is eating apples dipped in honey to symbolize hope for a sweet and blessed new year.
