After the establishment of NASA, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s first major assignment was to explore the moon. This began a series of missions known as Ranger, which began by taking a series of close-up images of the moon before crash landing. JPL, however, had grander plans. Part of the "JPL and the Space Age" series. Please note this title contains potentially offensive language.
