My name is Alissa, and I was told I would become deaf at some point earlier in life. I am currently 23 years old and I struggle daily with being able to hear properly. Since I was 8 years old I had my first surgery to help me be able to hear. Since then I have had 13 surgeries to reconstruct my ear drums. My family never wanted to learn Sign Language and does not care for me to use it, But finally they are supportive in me learning for myself just not with them. I know I will be fully deaf at some point, and I cannot have any more surgeries. My best friend is fully deaf since birth. They have helped me to learn a little, but I am far from fluent in American sign language or knowledgeable really of the deaf culture. These videos have been helpful to me. Thank you.

Our 13 year old son is losing his hearing progressively and is expected to be functionally deaf as an adult. Family Signs classes and the materials on DCMP are a great benefit to learning ASL as a family.

These videos are fun, real-life situations that you would find in anyone's daily routine, which makes them so meaningful. There is a rewind feature, pause, speed up, move ahead, watch as many times as you would like, features. Very organized, easy to follow, and there is print and auditory reinforcement. Can't say enough good about these videos! And they are free! That makes it even better! Thank you for offering these. This video made me hungry to learn more!

Thank you! This is exactly what my son and I needed. Because he isn't deaf, we have limited access to ASL immersed environments for him. At his school, he is given a communication device that he isn't really working with, very well. We've learned lots of signs, through books, Signing Time, and some community-based classes, but haven't been in an immersive environment to learn the conversational structure. I love that this is focused on family life. So valuable! We're already practicing some phrases from just the first 5 videos. I look forward to our journey through the others. Many thanks to all of your sponsors that are making this resource available for families like ours. It's giving my son greater confidence to practice the signs that he knows.

Then they watched 13 minutes of the Bravo Family, seeing a deaf family signing in their home. They were fascinated. We have one deaf student in this school.
