The Wieliczka Salt Mine, in southern Poland, lies within the Kraków metropolitan area. Sodium chloride, also known as table salt, was formerly produced there from the upwelling brine. The mine was excavated from the 13th century and produced table salt continuously until 2007. Part of the "Around the World" series.
