String instruments produce sound from one or more vibrating strings, which is either transferred to the air by the body of the instrument or in the case of electronically amplified instruments by a pickup. The three most common techniques to make the strings vibrate are plucking, bowing and striking. In this program viewers are introduced to eight popular string instruments: the violin, the alto violin, the cello, the double bass, the classical guitar, the electric guitar, and the electric bass. Part of a musical moment series.
