Countdown to Deaf History Month: One Week Away!

Deaf History Resources from the DCMP

Deaf History Month begins on March 13! Continue planning your celebration this week with a review of our wide assortment of deaf history resources and test your captioning trivia skills by taking our captioning history quiz. A printable color flyer [PDF] listing some of our many Deaf History resources is also available to download and share.

Our clearinghouse of accessibility information is chock full of articles and resources (such as our Captioning Timeline Highlights [PDF] or The Logic of the Motion Picture in the Classroom: Films in Schools for the Deaf [PDF] about efforts in the early 1960s to secure federal funding for captioned films) that will lend considerable insight into the legacy of captioned educational media.

Also, we’ve opened up access to both titles in the Famous Deaf Americans series (Part I or Part II), which is narrated and hosted by Bob Panara (who we profiled in last week’s announcement). Now, everyone can enjoy and learn from these profiles of important deaf historical figures!

If you haven’t done so already, sign up for the DCMP newsletter and watch for our Deaf History Month feature in the upcoming March edition.

The Described and Captioned Media Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Education and administered by the National Association of the Deaf.
